India’s direct tax receipts up 57.5%

New Delhi: India’s direct tax receipts for the period up to 18June is up 57.5% year on year at Rs374.44 billion, a finance ministry source said on 19 June.
Advance tax paid by companies and individuals for the April-June period of this financial year is up 28.6% at Rs137.96 billion, the official, who did not wish to be named, said.
State Bank of India, Steel Authority of India Ltd, Life Insurance Corp., Reliance Industries Ltd and ICICI Bank are among the top advance tax payers for the quarter to June 2007, he said.
