August cement prices fell sharply in northern and central India on lower demand compared with July. Dealers indicate a further fall. Prices were flat in the south, as producers held on to pricing discipline in spite of sluggish demand. Prices in the east and the west rose on stable demand.

However, when compared with the year-till-date high, cement prices across the board were lower in August. Sluggish government spend on infrastructure, delays in project clearances and rising interest rates seem to suggest softer prices for the September quarter, compared with the June one.
