New Delhi: India’s soybean meal exports rose by 20% during the 2006-07 fiscal year, driven by robust demand from South-east Asian nations, according to the latest data provided by an industry body.

Soymeal exports for the year stood at 41.96 lakh tonnes compared with 34.94 lakh tonnes the previous fiscal.

However, soymeal exports in March declined by more than 20% at 5.65 lakh tonnes, against 7.1 lakh tonnes in the corresponding month last year.

“Soybean meal exports in the last fiscal was the highest ever on the back of favourable conditions such as availability of soybean seeds, good crushing and robust export demand," Soybean Processors Association of India Coordinator Rajesh Agrawal said from Indore. Agrawal said the rise in prices in March affected export demand for the month.
