Mumbai: The Indian rupee fell to its lowest since April 2003 early on Monday in anticipation of more capital outflows with Asian shares falling, but dollar sales by state-run banks probably on behalf of central bank curbed a further drop.
At 9:19am, the partially convertible rupee was at Rs47.30/32 per dollar, compared with Friday’s close of Rs47.0750/0850. In early trade, it hit Rs47.45, its lowest since April 2003.
