Total port traffic was down 0.5% in November 2011, compared with the year-ago period, but that was largely on account of a fall in iron ore traffic as a result of the ban on iron ore exports. A report by Motilal Oswal Securities Ltd points out that while there was a marginal pick-up in coal and petroleum products imports in November, the real spurt was in imports of fertilizers, which were higher by 53% year-on-year.
