Oslo: Danish brewer Carlsberg A/S said its South Asia Breweries joint venture will buy two Indian beer plants to increase its presence in the world’s second fastest growing major economy.
The breweries are located in Maharashtra and West Bengal, it said in a statement. Both plants probably will start production this quarter, it said, but declined to divulge the purchase price.
South Asia Breweries was formed in November 2006, and Carlsberg holds 45% of its shares, while the Industrialization Fund for Developing Countries holds 10% and the remaining 45% is owned by a group of investors, led by Carlsberg’s partner in Sri Lanka, Lion Brewery Ceylon Ltd.
