What are ETFs (exchange traded funds)? Please suggest some good ETFs. Also, I have invested in Brown Pharma and Indian Metal Chrome, but they are not being traded on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) for quite some time. Have I lost my money? What is the status of these firms?

Brown Pharma was last traded on BSE on 21 September 2005, and has since been suspended. Indian Metal last traded at Rs214.75 on BSE on 8 May 2009.
