New Delhi: The markets ended flat after a choppy session with the benchmark index settling at 15,117 levels, up a modest 44 points or 0.3%.
The Sensex moved in a broad range of 14,992 – 15,280 levels in intra-day deals. The wide-based National Stock Exchange’s index Nifty closed 6 points higher at 4,524 levels.
“Although the bias remains positive, investors should maintain caution as profit taking at higher levels may pull down the market,” said a technical analyst with Sharekhan.
Leading the pack of gainers among the Sensex scrips were Sterlite Industries and Tata Motors. They moved up over 4% each. Grasim Industries, DLF Limited, HDFC, NTPC, Jaiprakash Associates and Infosys Technologies were some of the other key gainers.
However, profit booking as visible in select capital goods counters. Usha Martin, Bharat Bijli, Jyoti Structures, Gammon India, Alstom Projects, Crompton Greaves and Thermax lost ground in this space.
