Stocks gained on hopes that Greek debt negotiations could result in a deal

Mumbai: Asian markets are trading subdued. According to Reuters, uncertainty over Euro zone meetings on Greece is weighing on sentiment.

Overnight US markets closed firm. Stocks gained on hopes that Greek debt negotiations could result in a deal. S&P 500 at 2,068 is up 1%.

The sales of trucks and buses rose for the third straight month, although the rate of expansion slowed, reports Mint. Sales of commercial vehicles in India grew 5.3% in January from a year ago after rising 9.05% in November and 9.01% in December.

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) expects passenger vehicle sales to rise 3-5% in 2014-15, up from its earlier projection of 1-2%, on improved consumer sentiment over the past few months, reports Business Standard.

Software exports for the year starting 1 April, 2015 may expand at a slower pace than in the current fiscal year because of currency volatility and global economic and political pressures, Nasscom reportedly said.

The Indian steel industry is headed for a period of overcapacity with additional supply coming on-stream in the next fiscal likely to exceed any improvement in demand, reports Mint.

Coal India Ltd (CIL) plans to compensate the customer for inferior quality of coal, reports The Economic Times. According to the report, Coal India has now allowed its consumers to select third party sampling agencies. These sampling entities will sample the coal at loading points.

The ministry of defence has selected two consortia for a large project, reports Business Standard. One consortium is by Larsen and Toubro Ltd (L&T) and Tata Power Co. Ltd, and the other is the one between Rolta India Ltd and Bharat Electronics Ltd, the report says.

TVS Motors Co. Ltd plans to launch two new motorbikes during the first two quarters of the next fiscal year, reports Business Standard. The new launches include Victor and a premium bike, the report says.

As US firms cut fracking investments, orders for guar gum—used to extract shale oil and gas—are drying up, reports Bloomberg. According to the report, Vikas WSP Ltd is India’s second-largest exporter of guar gum.

Suzlon Energy Ltd is in talks with PV Powertech, which makes solar energy panels, for a possible merger or a stake purchase, reports Business Standard.

Lastly, Deepak Fertilizers and Petrochemicals Corp Ltd, Escorts Ltd, Bata India Ltd, BPCL Ltd, Container Corporation of India Ltd, Godrej Industries Ltd, The India Cements Ltd, Power Finance Corp Ltd, Natco Pharma Ltd and NCC Ltd are some of the companies that will release their earnings for the December quarter today.
