Mumbai: The Government has allowed export of 51,010 tonnes of non-basmati rice to Bangladesh waiving a ban on the export of the commodity, the director general of foreign trade said in a statement.
India on 8 February reimposed a ban on non-basmati rice exports after partially easing restriction in late October 2007. Exports were banned early October to prop up procurement in the face of stagnant production.
The statement issued on Monday said 50,000 tonnes will be exported through the West Bengal Essential Commodities Supply Corp. Ltd, while 1,010 tonnes will be supplied as relief material.
