Live: Rupee closes weaker against US dollar at 63.63

Here are the key developments affecting the domestic and international markets today

5:00pm: The Indian rupee closes at 63.63 against US dollar, down 0.04% from its previous close of 63.60.

3:30pm: The S&P BSE Sensex closed 0.60%, or 166.30 points, higher at 27,895.97, while the CNX Nifty ended 0.44%, or 37.15 points, lower at 8,398, on the day of derivatives expiry.

3:28pm: The S&P BSE Sensex rises 0.73%, or 201.72 points, to 27,931.39, while the CNX Nifty gains 0.62%, or 52.10 points, to 8,412.95, ahead of derivatives expiry

3:25pm: The S&P BSE Sensex rises 0.64%, or 177.10 points, to 27,906.77, while the CNX Nifty gains 0.52%, or 43.60 points, to 8,404.45, ahead of derivatives expiry.

2.22pm: The S&P BSE Sensex rises 152 points, or 0.55%, to 27,881.88.

1.25pm: The Sensex is currently trading 140 points higher, or 0.51%, to 27,870.09.

12.16pm: The S&P BSE Sensex rises 66.03 points, or 0.24% to 27,795.70.

12.10pm: Cipla Ltd falls 2% to 610.50. Kamil Hamied has stepped down from Cipla to pursue personal interests. Kamil’s elder sister, Samina Vaziralli, has taken on an expanded role leading global strategic alliances and building the consumer health business in India.

11.57am: Housing Development Finance Corp Ltd (HDFC) rises 1.4% to 1,300 a share. The government will soon clarify what ownership and control mean in the Indian insurance sector. The move could come as a major relief for promoters of insurance companies in which foreign investors own a majority stake, Mint reported.

10.45am: Dena Bank rises 1% to 45.90. Dena Bank is likely to be in focus as it has signed a general refinance agreement with MUDRA Bank to finance new entrepreneurs and small businesses, according to news reports.

10.40am: Shriram EPC Ltd rises 2.9% to 32.10. The company will hold a meeting of its board of directors on 26 June to consider and approve the allotments on Preferential Basis Allotment of equity shares to CDR lenders in lieu of FITL.

10.35am: The Sensex is currently trading higher by 0.10%, or 27.82 points, at 27,757.49.

10.30am: Adani Enterprises Ltd falls 3.6% to 93.50. Adani Mining said on Wednesday that it was rejigging the budget on the $7.72 billion Carmichael coal mine project in Australia as it faces delays in government approvals. Read here

10.25: Shares of PSU companies were trading higher on the back of higher volumes. MMTC Ltd rose 15.7%, Hindustan Copper Ltd rose 10.7% to 69.15, National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd rose 5.4% to 850.50, HMT Ltd rose 5.4%, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd rose 5.2%, Shipping Corporation of India Ltd rose 4%, Rashtriya Chemicals Fertilizers Ltd rose 3%.

10.20am: Texmaco Infrastructure and Holdings Ltd fell 1.5% to 32.55, while Kalindee Rail Nirman Engineers Ltd rose 0.25% to 121.40. Texmaco Rail and Engineering Ltd will merge Kalindee Rail Nirman (Engineers) Ltd with itself. The Delhi High Court has directed the companies to convene meetings of shareholders, secured creditors and unsecured creditors of Kalindee Rail on 11 July.

10:15am: Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) Ltd fell 1.3% to 1,068.05 on BSE. The company has said in a notice to BSE that it has sold 148.28 million warrants of Metropolitan Stock Exchange of India Ltd (MSXI) convertible into 148.28 million equity shares of MSXI to various investors. 10.10am: Shriram Transport Finance Co. Ltd rose 0.5% to 895.80, while Shriram City Union Finance Ltd fell 2.9% to 1,638.25. Shriram Transport will hold a board meeting on 26 June to discuss the proposal of merger of Shriram Equipment Finance Co. Ltd, its wholly-owned subsidiary, with itself.

10.05am: SREI Infrastructure Finance Ltd rose 4.5% to 37.65. The company is planning to raise 500 crore via a bond issue for infrastructure lending, according to media reports.

10.00am: Hindustan Construction Co. Ltd rises 5.8% to 25.75 after the company said it seeks shareholders nod to raise 1,000 crore in foreign currency. The funds will be used for working capital and capital expenditure purposes

9.55am: Cupid Ltd rose 20% to 97 on BSE after the company said in a notice to BSE that it got an order for supply of female condoms for $16.28 million.

9:50am: MMTC Ltd rises 16% to 53.15 on the back of higher volumes. India’s Cabinet approved renewal of long-term agreements for supply of high-grade iron ore to Japan and South Korea, telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Wednesday.

9.45am: Sectoral indices—BSE Capital goods was the top sectoral gainer up 0.8% followed by BSE Power and healthcare indices which were up 0.4% and 0.3% respectively. BSE Realty was the top sectoral loser down 0.4% followed by BSE FMCG and IT indices which were down 0.3% each.

9.40am: The Sensex is trading higher by 0.07%, or 19.40 points, at 27,749.07, while the 50-share CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) is down 0.01%, or 1.15 points, to 8,359.70.

9.25am: The yield on India’s 10-year benchmark bond was trading at 7.796% compared with its Wednesday’s close of 7.799%

9.22am: The Indian rupee opened marginally higher. The home currency was trading at 63.59, up 0.02% from its previous close of 63.60. Read here

9.15am: The euro was steady on the day at $1.1203. The dollar was also nearly flat on the day against the yen at 123.87.

9.10am: The benchmark US crude was nearly flat in early Asian trade at $60.23 a barrel after plunging more than 1% on Wednesday on a government report showing that an eighth straight weekly drop in US crude stockpiles was offset by a large build in refined products.

9.05am: MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was down about 0.1%. Japan’s Nikkei fell about 0.4% after hopes for a resolution to Greece’s debt crisis helped propel it to its highest level since 1996 on Wednesday.

9.00am: Asian shares edged down and the dollar was treading water in early Asian trade on Thursday with investors on ice ahead of a meeting of European Union leaders later in the session as Greece continued last-minute efforts to avert a default.

8:55am: The Dow Jones industrial average slips 1% to 17,966.07. The Standard and Poor’s 500 drops 0.7% to 2,108.58 and the Nasdaq composite is dwon 0.7% lower at 5,122.41.
