MUMBAI: There has been a sharp rise in merger and acquisition (M&A) deals in the commodities sector over the last couple of years, reveals a study by Grant Thornton.
Although the two mega deals involving Tata Steel’s acquisition of Corus and Hindalco’s acquisition of Novelis have skewed the total value of the deals, there were a few other deals that marked a new trend, the study said.
“Several Indian companies in steel, metal and energy are exploring large international acquisitions and large M&A activities in the commodity sector are expected in the current year,” the report said.
