Chennai-US direct service on Maersk
CHENNAI: Shipping major Maersk on 16 March, 2007 launched its direct shipping service from Chennai to the US. The weekly service would provide direct connection to many US ports from Chennai, Vishal Sharma, vice president, Maersk India, said.
Chennai is the third Indian port of call for the company, the other two being Nava Sheva in Mumbai and Pimpara.
The service would provide connection to Colombo, Salalah, Jeddah, Algeciras, Savannah, Norfolk and Newark.
Chennai would be the company’s transhipment hub for cargo from Visakhapatnam, Kolkata and Chittagong. The new direct service would enable the manufacturers here to maintain their supply chain in perfect order, he said.
