Mumbai: The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on Tuesday allowed stock exchanges to launch derivative contracts based on a volatility index.
The regulator will allow an exchange to launch derivates on a volatility index that has a track record of at least a year.
At present, only the National Stock Exchange has a volatility index. Sebi has asked the exchanges to submit the specifications of any such contract they intend to launch.
