Mumbai: Extending Wednesday’s rally, the BSE benchmark Sensex rose by almost 82 points in opening trade on Thursday, led by IT, technology, capital goods, metal and realty stocks.
The 30-share index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) rose by 81.71 points to 20,337.74 in the first few minutes of trade, translating into a 0.43% gain vis-a-vis the previous close. The barometer had gained over 231 points in Wednesday’s session to touch a six-week high.
Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index moved up by 19.50 points, or 0.32%, to 6,079.85.
Market analysts said covering up of short positions by speculators ahead of monthly expiry in the derivatives segment on Thursday buoyed the bullish sentiment.
