NEW DELHI: Sensex surged above the 14,400 mark, to strike an all-time high of 14,405.33 as market extended gains of 1February in early trade, on the back of firm global markets. Buying interest was witnessed among the technology, metals and capital goods stocks.
At 10:30 am, Sensex surged 134.64 points or 0.94% at 14,401.82 and Nifty was up 41.10 points or 0.99% at 4,178.30. At 10:13 am the BSE Sensex was up 138.59 points, at 14,405.77. Among the 30-Sensex pack, only 7 advanced while the rest declined.
Among the sectoral indices, all were trading in the positive territory. Metal stocks surged 1.19%, capital goods stocks jumped 1.23%, telecom stocks climbed 1.06% and banking stocks advanced 0.82%.
The major market movers on Sensex were Gujarat Ambuja which gained 1.83% to Rs 141.90; Satyam rose 1.55% to Rs 481.50; HDFC Bank rose 1.43% to Rs 1,118; Hindalco jumped up 1.39% to Rs 185.50 and Bharti Airtel rose 1.24% to 740.70. Sail, Gujarat Ambuja, Suzlon Energy, M&M and Tata Steel were the major gainers in the NSE.
NTPC was the only major loser among the BSE pack. The major NSE losers were Nalco which declined 0.73% to Rs 245.20; Sun Pharma fell 0.35% to Rs 1,042.05 and BPCL fell 0.15% to Rs 357.40.
