New Delhi: The markets reversed course at close of trade on 1 August, with the benchmark index moving up 300.94 points to 14,656.69, or 2.1% up. It had slipped to 14,032 levels in opening moves.
There were 1,551 advances against 1,108 declines, while 73 scrips remained unchanged.
Capital goods sector index was the biggest gainer, rising 448.20 points at 12,132 on the back of substantial gains by Larsen and Toubro, BHEL, Siemens and ABB Ltd.
Power segment was the second best performer and shot up by 3.4%.
The broader Nifty closed 81 points up at 4,413 levels.
