Public offer will give BSNL ‘navratna’ status

New Delhi: The government is considering the initial public offering of telecom services provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), minister of state for communications and information technology Gurudas Kamat told the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
“The government is considering to offer part of its equity shareholding in BSNL by an offer for sale to the public," he told the Lok Sabha in a written reply. He said the company’s listing will help it get navratna status, which gives firms more autonomy.
