Top-10 cos add over Rs52k cr to m-cap, MMTC leads

Mumbai: During the past week, all the top-10 firms added a sum of over Rs52,000 crore to their market capitalization, with trading firm MMTC emerging as the biggest gainer, leap-frogging to fourth place from seventh rank in the previous week.

The week saw telecom major Bharti Airtel move out of the list of top-10 firms by market capitalization, to be replaced by engineering firm Larsen & Toubro. The ranking of several other heavyweights also saw changes.

MMTC saw its valuation swell by Rs16,910.25 crore, taking its total valuation to Rs1,60,247.25 crore.

Shares of MMTC gained 3,382.05 points, or 11.79%, to settle at Rs32,049.45 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) at the end of Friday’s trade.

The BSE 30-share index Sensex during the week gained 505.87 points, or 2.96%, to settle at Rs17,570.82 on the BSE.

Corporate behemoth Reliance Industries Ltd maintained its numero-uno position and added Rs2,943.58 crore to its m-cap, taking its total valuation to Rs3,45,135.34 crore.

The country’s second most valued firm, ONGC, added Rs2,940.94 crore to its kitty by the end the week to achieve a m-cap of Rs2,55,274.13 crore.

State-run power-producer NTPC remained at the third spot and added Rs989.46 crore to its m-cap, taking its market valuation to Rs1,65,280.25 crore, while MMTC jumped to fourth place.

IT major Infosys slipped to fifth spot from fourth position last week, even though it added Rs8,489.66 crore to its m-cap, ending the week at Rs1,59,610.9 crore, followed by the country’s largest software exporter, TCS, which slid to sixth rank from fifth position earlier.

TCS added Rs4,452.63 crore to its m-cap, taking its valuation to Rs1,52,984.54 crore.

State-owned lender SBI fell to seventh rank from sixth place despite adding Rs2,203 crore to its m-cap to end the week at Rs1,50,637.98 crore.

Power equipment manufacturer BHEL maintained its eight ranking and gained Rs1,169.95 crore, taking its market valuation to Rs1,18,277.82 crore.

FMCG major ITC, at ninth place, gained Rs5,078 crore in m-cap to see its valuation swell to Rs1,12,331.44 crore.

Engineering major L&T made a foray into the list of top-10 companies by adding Rs7,298.11 crore to its m-cap. The market valuation of L&T stood at Rs1,08,464.46 crore.
