The assets under management of Foreign Institutional Investors rose from 3,84,491 crore in January 2006 to RS 5,81,087 crore as on January, 2007, Rajya Sabha was informed on 20 March.

The notional value of Participatory Notes (PN) as a percentage of assets under management of FIIs has increased from 30.5% to 34.8% during the period under review, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said in a written reply.

As per information available with the SEBI, the notional value of PN has increased from 1,17,325 crore in January 2006 to 2.02,487 crore during January 2007, he said.

In reply to a query, Chidambaram said the SEBI has informed government that there is no evidence to suggest that some terrorist mafia organisations are using the PN route in the country and misusing these investments in Indian markets, the Minister said.

While recounting methods employed by terrorist outfits to generate funds, National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan during his speech at the 43rd Munich Conference on Security Policy on February 11, 2007 referred to stock market operations.

However, National Security Council Secretariat has clarified that the speech mentioned about such possibilities and no specific names of companies were indicated, Chidambaram said.

The working Group on IT for 11th plan (2007-2012), set up by the Planning Commission, envisages IT and IT enabled services exports to reach 60 billion dollars in value terms by 2009-10, Chidambaram said.
