Sensex off day’s high, ends 206 points up

The markets ended on a firm note on 16 June, with the benchmark BSE Sensex closing 206.20 points up, but off the day’s high, at 15,395.82. As many as 152 Sensex scrips posted gains at the closing bell, while 49 declined and three showed no change.
In the broader markets Nifty ended with a 55.40 point gain to 4,572.50. It had gained 74 points in afternoon deals.
On the BSE, real estate and banking stocks ruled the day, posting gains of 3.54% and 2.83% respectively. ICICI Bank was the leading gainer among Sensex scrips, posting a 4.43% rise to end the day at Rs798.70.
Other big gains were seen in Reliance Energy (up 3.97% at Rs1060.80) and Bharti Airtel (3.15%, Rs839.60).
