Creative innovation stands out at BCB4
Barcamp Bangalore 4
28 and 29 July
Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore
Barcamp Bangalore 4 [collective edition] (BCB4) was possibly the biggest event of its kind so far, with more than 600 people turning up over two days. But BCB4 stood out not because of the numbers, but the innovative way it was organized. The concept of collectives—people grouping over a common theme of interest—was introduced at a Barcamp for the first time. Traditionally, a Barcamp is imagined to be a tech gathering, but the collective themes ensured BCB4 went beyond that. We had 25 collectives on widely different subjects. Some were related to the Internet and mobile space, such as the mobile and bloggers’ collectives. Then there were those on photography and biking. We even had a “Bored of collectives" collective, where people made fun of the collectives concept! As a participant at Barcamp Bangalore right from the start, it has been interesting to see how it has evolved. From a small event that mostly attracted techies last year, it has turned into a freewheeling forum for people from varied sectors. Programmers, social scientists, venture capitalists, academicians, bikers and musicians came together at the event. With this kind of collaboration, BCB4 is trying to create an ecosystem that leads to creative innovation.
Barcamp Bangalore 5 is already on the cards, tentatively scheduled for November.
