NSC investments fall 3% in first 8 months of current fiscal

New Delhi: Public investments in National Savings Certificate up to November 2006 in the fiscal 2006-07 has declined to Rs 4,881 crore, a fall of about Rs 141 crore compared to the same period a year ago.
Under the Post Office Savings Scheme, gross collections under Public Provident Fund have increased to Rs 12,866 crore up to November 2006, up from Rs 11,735 crore up to November 2005, Shakeel Ahmad, Minister of State for IT and Telecom told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
The National Savings Certificate (VII issue) gross collections up to November 2006 is Rs 4,881 crore, while it was Rs 5,022 crore in November 2005.
He said the trends in collections indicate investors’ preference for various alternative avenues of investment available to them.
