Fuel availability improves for thermal power plants
The number of power plants with stock of less than seven days of fuel fell sharply last year
Thanks to improving coal supplies, the number of power plants with stock of less than seven days of fuel fell sharply from last year. From 23 in April 2014, the number of power plants with critical coal supplies fell to 12 in March and five in April. This is a multi-year low, says Elara Securities (India) Pvt. Ltd.
Apart from better supplies from Coal India Ltd, thermal power producers also benefited from low international prices, which is helping them buy fuel on the cheap.
