Crisil Research has segregated the Kolkata Metropolitan Area into eight micro-markets. Of these, Crisil Research’s estimates Salt Lake to account for about 6% of the total upcoming supply in Kolkata. Salt Lake was developed as a satellite township between 1958 and 1965. This micro market is the biggest software technology hub in Kolkata, where several national and international information technology (IT) companies have set up offices. Salt Lake is also expected to be connected to Howrah along the upcoming East-West Metro Rail line, owing to its commercial importance. Residential demand in the core Salt Lake area is mainly driven by people working in IT and IT-enabled services companies situated in the region.
