Chart of the Day | Sectors seeing negative growth in bank credit
The chart shows that quite a few sectors are seeing negative growth in bank credit in the current fiscal year. Advances to microcredit are negative because of the problems in the sector. Advances to telecom are lower because the borrowing for obtaining licences is no longer there this year.

But sectors such as fertilizers have been badly hit. Loans to manmade textile units are not only lower this fiscal, but are also negative by 13.7% on a year-on-year basis. The negative growth in loans to the construction industry ties in with the very low growth in construction seen in the first quarter gross domestic product figures. It is also rather strange that advances to wholesale trade are in a negative territory.
