Global crude steel production rose by about 10% year-on-year in February, but was down 8% sequentially. China’s production failed to maintain the uptrend seen in January and India’s production fell, too. Most regions reported a sequential drop in production. March’s figures, too, will be due to the quake in Japan.
Strangely, though production was down sequentially, capacity utilization went up by about a percentage point to 82%.
