Live: Sensex closes 12 points down, Nifty 1 point up

Here are the key developments affecting the domestic and international markets today

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed 11.96 points, or 0.05%, down at 25,610.21, while the 50-share CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange closed up 1.20 points, or 0.02%, at 7,789.30.

3.26pm: The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex is trading down 13.03 points, or 0.05 %, to 25,609.14, while the 50-share CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange slides 0.04%, or 3.25 points, to 7,784.85.

3.10pm The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex is trading higher by 0.32%, or 81.36 points, to 25,703.53 while the 50-share CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange is up 28.25 points, or 0.36% , to 7,816.35.

2.48pm The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex is trading marginally higher by 0.13%, or 32.92 points, to 25,655.09 while the 50-share CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange is up 6.00 points, or 0.08%, to 7,794.10.

1:40pm: The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex is trading marginally higher by 0.14%, or 36.31 points, to 25,658.48 while the 50-share CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange is up 4.80 points, or 0.06%, to 7,792.90.

1:22pm: Textile firm Arvind Ltd gains as much as 2.92% on entry into business and cosmetics business. Arvind on Friday announced its entry into the segment through a partnership with Sephora, owned by LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, a French luxury conglomerate. Read here

1:10pm: Tata Motors Ltd falls 1.4% to 349.30. Tata Motors said its August global sales of passenger vehicles rose by 5% y-o-y to 44,956 units; Jaguar Land Rover August sales at 33,103 including JV with Chery Automobile.

12:18pm: The S&P BSE Sensex is currently trading 66.20 points higher, or up 0.26%, at 25,688.37.

12:00pm: Gokaldas Exports Ltd rises 7% to 56.30 after the company said in a notice to BSE that it is in pact with Silver Spark Apparel Limited for sale of its wholly owned subsidiary, Robot Systems Pvt Ltd.

11:45am: Infosys Ltd gains 1.9% to 1,100.50. Margins for 12-18 mos will be lower after winning large deals, CNBC-TV18 reports, citing Infosys conference call.

11:30am: Hindustan Organic Chemicals Ltd (HOCL) falls 2.6% to 11.47 after rating company Care downgraded the 100 crore bonds of government-owned HOCL to junk category, following the company’s failure to pay interest to bond holders on the due date. Care said that the bond was downgraded because the government failed to fund the designated account of Hindustan Organic.

11:10am: Sensex is now trading up 78.75 points, or 0.31%, to 25,700.92.

11:00am: Natco Pharma Ltd rises 2.4% to 2,238.10. Natco Pharma seeks to raise as much as $52 million by selling shares to institutional investors on Thursday at 2,130.55-2,165 each, according to terms for the deal obtained by Bloomberg News.

10:50am: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will, in the next few days, announce the names of successful applicants who are to be granted small finance bank licences, said S.S. Mundra, RBI deputy governor. Dewan Housing Finance Corp. Ltd rises 3.1% to 225, IIFL Holdings Ltd is up 0.2% to 184.30 and SKS Microfinance Ltd rises 3.3% to 456.45.

10:40am: The S&P BSE Sensex is currently trading higher by 0.61%, or 155.65 points, to 25,777.82 while the 50-share CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) rises 0.57%, or 44.30 points, to 7,832.40.

10:30am: Godrej Consumer Products Ltd is up 3% to 1,244.70 after the company said in a notice to BSE that it has completed acquisition of the balance 40% stake in Cosmetica Nacional.

10:20am: Amtek Auto Ltd rises 8.9% to 33.10 after the company said in a notice to BSE that it has allotted 4.4 million shares to promoters at 169 a share, aggregating to 75 crore via preferential allotment.

10.10am: Jet Airways India Ltd rises 4.4% to 323.75 while SpiceJet Ltd is up 7.4% to 24.75. InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, owner of India’s biggest airline IndiGo, on Thursday reported a record net profit of 1,304 crore for the year ended 31 March—a fourfold jump over the previous year—as it benefited from higher passenger traffic and lower jet fuel costs ahead of a planned initial share sale.

9:55am: The S&P BSE Sensex is now trading higher by 171.38 points, or 0.67%, to 25,793.55.

9:50am: Elder Pharmaceuticals Ltd rises 16.8% to 98.10 after Mint reported that the company may sell its factories in Maharashtra and Uttarakhand, as well as some real estate, to raise money and repay creditors. The drug maker is facing a financial crunch. Read here

9:45am: Sectoral indices: BSE Consumer Durables and Realty are the top sectoral gainers, up 1.4% each, followed by BSE Auto and Bankex, which are up 1.1% each. BSE FMCG, Oil and Gas and Healthcare are up 0.9% each, while BSE IT, Metal and Teck indices are up 0.7% each.

9:40am: Indian equity-index futures rose, with the benchmark stock gauge poised to halt four weeks of declines before the release of monthly industrial production data. The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex rises 194.98 points, or 0.76%, to 25,817.15.

Top gainers: Among the gainers, State Bank of India rises 2.3% to 232.90 while Axis Bank Ltd gains 1.7% to 491.

Top losers: Among the losers, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd falls 0.7% to 215.05 while Hindustan Unilever Ltd loses 0.5% to 786.90.

9.32am: The Indian rupee strengthens and opens at 66.35 per US dollar compared with its previous close of 66.43, following a fall in other Asian currencies. Read here

9:26am: The yield on India’s 10-year benchmark bond was trading at 7.772% compared with Thursday’s close of 7.775%.

9:20am: The US dollar bought ¥120.82 compared with ¥120.63 in New York, while the euro was at $1.1279 compared with $1.1275.

9:15am: Benchmark US crude falls 18 cents at $45.74 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude, a benchmark for international oils, loses 12 cents at $48.77 in London after rising $1.31 to close at $48.89 a barrel in the previous trading day.

9:10am: Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is up 1.3% at 21,842.20 and China’s Shanghai Composite Index rises 0.4% to 3,210.58. Japan’s Nikkei 225 slips 0.1% to 18,289.68 and South Korea’s Kospi sheds 0.7% to 1,949.17. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 adds 0.1% to 5,101.20.

9:00am: Asian shares rose on Friday thanks to gains on Wall Street, while the dollar steadied after facing pressure from a rallying yuan and US data that offered no clarity on whether the Federal Reserve might raise interest rates next week. Read here

8:55am: US stocks bucked Thursday’s global market slump after an intraday rise in oil prices pushed shares of energy companies higher. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 76.83 points, or 0.5%, to close at 16,330.40. The S&P’s 500 gained 10.25 points, or 0.5%, to 1,952.29. The Nasdaq composite climbed 39.72 points, or 0.8%, to 4,796.25.
