Markets closed for Mahavir Jayanti
Mumbai: India’s stocks, bond and currency markets are closed on Tuesday for a local holiday called Mahavir Jayanti. Trading resumes on Wednesday.
The 30-share BSE index rose 1.8% on Monday to 10,534.87 points, its strongest close since 10 November, as stocks rallied across the world on hopes the worst of economic downturn had passed.
The yield on the benchmark 2019 bond ended at 7%, above Thursday’s close of 6.96%. The partially convertible rupee closed at Rs50.04/05 per dollar, 0.6% stronger than its Thursday’s close of Rs50.33/35.
Markets were also closed last Friday for a holiday.
