Mumbai: Indian shares closed 1.7% higher on Monday, led by financials and metal producers, as world stocks rallied after China allowed more currency flexibility.

The 30-share BSE index 1.7%, or 305.73 points, at 17,863.15, with 22 components gaining.

The 50-share NSE index closed up 1.7% at 5,353.50 points.
