New Delhi: Stocks zigzagged on Tuesday before closing flat. Concerns about the impact of rising interest rates wrestled with cues from better-than-expected fourth quarter results from HDFC Bank. Markets are likely to trade in a range till the earnings season is over.

Most sectoral indices witnessed huge fluctuations in intra-day deals, though most closed with gains. Easing crude prices helped oil & gas stocks.

Even though broader markets closed flat, stock specific action continued on the bourses. Pipavav Shipyard surged as much as 9% on reports that the company is in talks to sell a stake to a large international company. Shares of Wockhardt also gained after the company said it got US FDA approval for venlafaxine tablets. Cairn India stock rebounded after reports said that Sesa Goa bought 11% in the company.
