The markets continued their losing streak with the Sensex shedding as many as 277.97 points, or 1.91%, to end the day at 14,293.32. At the closing bell, the BSE benchmark was off around 150 points from the day’s low.
In the broader markets, the Nifty ended 81.15 points down to close below the psychological 4,300 mark and ended at 4,266.40.
Capital goods stocks were the worst hit, losing 5.29%, followed by Metal scrips (4.62%) and Power (4.01%).
Jaiprakash Associates topped the list of Sensex losers, shedding as much as 7.95% to end the day at Rs153.35. It was followed by Hindalco, which lost 7.83% to Rs148.40.
Other big losers were Larsen and Toubro (6.53%, Rs2,396.30), Maruti Udyog (5.43%, Rs688.30) and Ranbaxy Laboratories (5.38%, Rs513.45).
