Mumbai: The rupee weakened against the US currency on 27 June and was quoted at 41.04/05 per dollar in late morning deals due to fresh demand for the greenback from oil importers and sluggish trend in equity markets.
In fairly active trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (forex) market, the local currency resumed weak at 40.99/41.02 a dollar from overnight close of 40.93/94, and later fell below 41.00 level to 41.04/05 in late morning trading.
Month-end dollar demand from oil corporates weighed on the rupee sentiment, forex dealers said.
The rupee’s fall was also attributed to a slow down in portfolio inflows and weakness in equity markets.
