Two biographical films on cricketers, 'Azhar,' on former cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin, which released in May and 'M.S. Dhoni: the Untold Story' on the current Indian cricket (limited overs) captain which releases on 30 September are not the only films in these genres. 1/7‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’ (2016): Directed by Neeraj Pandey, the biopic is based on the current limited-overs cricket captain, whose character will be essayed by Sushant Singh Rajput. It will hit screens on 30 September. 2/7‘Azhar’ (2016): Directed by Anthony D’Souza, the sports drama featured Emraan Hashmi as Mohammad Azharuddin, the ex-cricketer who battled allegations of match-fixing in a tumultuous life on and off the field. 3/7‘Budhia Singh: Born to Run’ (2016): Director Soumendra Padhi’s film is about the eponymous five-year-old prodigy who became the youngest to run a marathon in the world. Manoj Bajpai (right) plays Biranchi Das, his persistent and controversial coach who was later accused of financial fraud. 4/7Mary Kom (2014): The sports biopic directed by Omung Kumar saw Priyanka Chopra essay the role of the eponymous boxer. The film won the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment honour at the 62nd National Film Awards. 5/7Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013): The Farhan Akhtar-starrer was based on the life and struggles of legendary athlete Milkha Singh. Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the film won Akhtar several best actor awards. 6/7Paan Singh Tomar (2012): Tigmanshu Dhulia’s critically-acclaimed feature was based on a real-life soldier and athlete who took to crime. Irrfan Khan plays the title role. The film won national awards for best actor (Khan) and feature film. 7/7Chak De! India (2007): Not a biopic in the strict sense, Shimit Amin’s sports drama was a fictional story of the Indian women’s national field-hockey team inspired by the team’s win at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. The sports drama featured actor Shah Rukh Khan as the coach to the women’s hockey team.
