Ten killed in Gurdaspur terror attack in Punjab

Ten people, including four policemen and three civilians, died on Monday in the terrorist attack on the Dina Nagar police station in Gurdaspur district of Punjab

According to the police, three heavily armed assailants, wearing army uniform, snatched a local resident’s Maruti 800 car after firing at him in the wee hours on Monday, after which they went on further rampage. AFP

Residents woke up to sounds of gunfire. The attackers targeted a roadside eatery, shot dead a roadside vendor, and then struck a moving bus at around 5am, spraying bullets at passengers, injuring four. AFP

They later targeted a health centre followed by a building where the families of police personnel reside and hurled grenades before entering the police station. AFP

All three of the attackers died in fighting with Indian police officers backed by army personnel that lasted about 12 hours. AFP

Among the dead was also Punjab’s Superintendent of Police (Detective) Baljit Singh, who died in the crossfire. AFP
