Jayalalithaa has had an interesting career in politics right from the beginning, with many ups and downs. As she becomes the chief minister of Tamil Nadu for the sixth time, a look back at her political journey in pictures: 1/6Jayalalithaa steadily rose in power and carved out a firm role in the AIADMK, the party formed by her political mentor M.G. Ramachandran. In 1991, she formed an alliance with Congress, and, banking on the wave of sympathy earned by the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, she won 225 out of 234 seats and made her debut as chief minister. 2/6She returned as CM in 2011 after being out of power for 5 years, as her first term was marred by charges of corruption. However, her appointment as CM was quashed by the Supreme Court over an ongoing case.
