Touted as the biggest such exercise by any state, it aims to enumerate more than 84 lakh households in the state in a single day. 1/5Commuters risk their lives travelling atop a bus to their native places ahead of the survey. Alarmed at the prospect of being excluded from government welfare schemes, people from across the country have been flocking to the state over the past four days. PTI 2/5Hyderabad, the joint capital of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, wore a deserted look on Monday, as its residents headed to their native places to participate in the survey. Tuesday was declared a public holiday to ensure maximum participation in the survey. PTI 3/5Telangana CM K.C. Rao at a function in Hyderabad to mark India’s 68th Independence Day. There are fears of ethnic profiling among non-Telangana residents, but the govt claims the survey will help it in better planning of schemes and targeting real beneficiaries. PTI 4/5Above 369,000 govt officials in 10 districts will collect data on demography, financial status, land holdings, etc. Following criticism, three contentious questions seeking information on native state, mother tongue and duration of stay in Telanagana as residents were removed.
