A survey conducted by ABP News-Nielsen in 28 cities finds a steep decline in support for the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance and a commensurate surge in favour of the rival Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance. Regardless of the findings, it is also a signal of the onset of the electoral season.
Increasingly, the expectations are that they may happen earlier than their scheduled date in 2014; if not, it will be one extended campaign.
Given that the verdict is likely to be fragmented, the stakes are even higher. Obviously, a good business opportunity to the rapidly expanding business of elections.
While at present the focus is on psephologists, the launch of the campaign would generate good advertising business and of course employment opportunities for the scores of people who will be drafted to spread the message.
