Israel’s attack on aid vessels sailing for blockaded Gaza is a PR disaster. Images of the attack, in international waters, are dramatic enough: Soldiers with guns swarming onto the ships at night. Most of the ships belonged to Turkey, a Nato member and Israel’s only ally in the region. Israel has now joined the likes of North Korea and Somali pirates, who have attacked ships without immediate provocation. The attack can only spur the world to begin questioning again the validity of Israel’s blockade of Gaza, now beginning its fourth year.
