India has opposed a preferential trade deal between the European Union (EU) and Pakistan for a while now.?India has challenged the EU’s tariff concessions to flood-ravaged Pakistan at the World Trade Organization, claiming they violate principles of free trade. In theory, India should not oppose the agreement—it makes the country look petty.

Reports suggest that it may change its course. In reality, it is not pettiness, but fears of gains from this trade being diverted to military purposes that inform its stand. The EU should be apprised of Indian fears.
