Return fire
The Indian Army's retaliation to the Manipur attack was carried out in cooperation with Myanmar, proving that cross-border military cooperation is essential to wipe counter menace
Just days after 18 soldiers were killed in an ambush in Chandel district of Manipur, the army has retaliated and killed militants suspected to be behind the ambush near the Myanmar border.
The militants, belonging to the Khaplang faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland, had escaped to Myanmar which abuts Chandel district.
It is important to note that the operation was carried out in cooperation with Myanmar, a country with which India has close military ties. The area in question is very remote and has poor communication and transport links, both from an Indian perspective and that of Myanmar.
In such areas, militants make ample use of the porous borders and defy national jurisdictions wantonly.
To counter this menace, military-to-military cooperation is essential and cross-border operations are not unusual when the two armies understand the threat involved.
