What is common between the first US African-American president, the directors of a beleaguered technology outsourcing company and a veteran Indian politician? The answer: the use of new digital platforms to reach out to an audience.
The directors who have been appointed by the government to steer Satyam Computer Services Ltd have used popular video-sharing website YouTube to reach out to the thousands of nervous Satyam employees. Their communication is far more personal and confidence- boosting than cold and impersonal emails.
On the other hand, L.K. Advani has decided to develop his website and use social networking site Facebook to communicate with young voters. He even hopes to enlist young volunteers to help him in his political campaign.
The master of this strategy has been Barack Obama, who used every digital tool to mobilize support for a campaign that took an unknown junior senator to the White House. India seems to have learnt a few lessons.
