Dear Prime Minister:

I may have criticized you in the past for being an ineffectual leader, but I am just beginning to realize that you are, in truth, a very generous man. If you are willing to bail out businessmen who’ve disregarded the basic tenets of therisk-reward equation, albeit through slight tweaks in the tax structure, may I request you for similar treatment? I don’t really have a fondness for the high life, but I do like shoes. And a bit of overindulgence has left my finances in a parlous state. I don’t need much to tide over my problems, and I definitely don’t need a handout (perish the thought). Instead, an immediate reduction in the income tax I pay (effective next month), should do. Remember, this is likely to benefit not just me, but also lots of other people, and all of us will probably spend at least some of this money (saving is for wimps). Yours gratefully, etc.,
