The tote is one of the all-important accessories this season. Whether you’re travelling to some exotic destination, some overrated city, or even if you’re just hanging out by the pool, a chic tote is a must. It should be large, comfortable to carry around and, of course, it helps if it’s expensive looking.
If you’re travelling, besides a tote, you must invest in a travel stroller. Head out to buy one once your travel plans are made. Here’s help with some very exciting options.
Louis Vuitton is famous for its luggage. Even one piece in your collection is enough to show some kind of status and will give you an edge when you’re trying to blend in at, say, the lobby at the Grand Hotel Quisisana in Capri. Of course, having more than one piece in your luggage may ensure future reservations even at peak season. Check out the brand’s new patent leather strolley bag from the Monogram Vernis line—you must pick the juicy Pomme d’Amour shade. If you already have your Vuitton luggage in place, then why not pick up an oversized tote from their Damier line in the cruise collection. It’s quite a head-turner.
Other brands sporting fun totes this summer are Salvatore Ferragamo’s super chic tote bags, made of exquisite leathers. Also, Samsonite’s Black Label collection, designed by Brit bad boy Alexander McQueen, is quite spectacular and graphic for summer travel. Dior’s Saddlebag will also do great as a travel piece—large and super smart.
Here’s what you need to look out for when buying your tote. It should be comfortable to carry— whether slung over the shoulder or carried in your hand. It should have enough pockets and zippers for valuables such as money, jewellery and your watch, in case you need to remove them to sleep on the flight or take a dip in the pool. It should be a fun colour—at the moment, colour is big, so if you feel like being adventurous and drifting from a neutral, this season’s accessories will allow that. But buy a colour that will look good on you (keeping in mind your impending tan)—it’s a large accessory, you need to wear it well.
Oh, an important piece of advice—don’t bother buying matching shoes, please.
