Is the three-piece suit terribly out of fashion? I would love to wear one, but am unsure about the reactions I would get if I wore a waistcoat. Also, where can I buy one?
Waistcoats for men are quite out of fashion at the moment, though it is quite trendy for women to wear them. They’re definitely not for work wear, maybe you could wear one to a relaxed formal function. Play around with the colour and fabric of the waistcoat to give it a quirky edge. Don’t wear all three pieces of the suit in the same colour, it will be too staid and boring. Try a strong-coloured waistcoat with a sober suit. As for where to get them, the only advice I have for you is to get one tailored.
I have a black suit, a navy one and a grey pinstriped piece. I would like to expand my collection. What should be my next buy?
You’ve got all the basics, now it’s time to experiment. Try picking up a mixed-striped suit—a black, grey or blue one with thin purple or red stripes instead of the usual white. That’s the hot new trend in business suits the world over and it can be matched with all the shirts you wear with your existing suits. If you’re looking for some day wear, try a good suit in beige.
