The discovery of large reserves of uranium at Tummalapalle, Andhra Pradesh, should quell anxieties about sourcing of nuclear raw material for power generation in India. In any case, this never was a concern: abundant supply of thorium from monazite sands in Kerala is well known. The only question now is about getting technology, setting up plants and powering ahead. The country took another step in that direction on Monday when the construction of the 25th nuclear power plant started at Rawatbhata in Rajasthan.
