If reports are anything to go by, a fourth email claiming responsibility for Wednesday’s bomb carnage has been issued. This is enough to make our security agencies run around the country on a wild goose chase.
They should not be made to do that. The time gap between tracking the source of these mails and enabling policemen to reach the device used to send them should be minimal.
This is not a mere question of “coordination” among police forces in different jurisdictions, but requires a mindset change. Today’s crimes require a force that can function in a seamless manner across the length and breadth of India. A lathi-wielding constabulary won’t do.
The past few years have shown that there are technological fixes that can go a long way in sorting out the problem. It is time that all impediments in the way of their implementation are bulldozed away.
