Lucknow: With her party failing to put up an impressive show in the Lok Sabha elections, BSP supremo Mayawati on Saturday accused the SP, Congress and BJP of having a tacit understanding to prevent her from playing an important role at the Centre.
“SP, BJP and Congress had a tacit understanding in the Lok Sabha elections. These parties transfered their votes to each other wherever they felt that a candidate was in a position to defeat BSP nominee,” Mayawati told reporters here.
Alleging that the only motive of these parties behind doing so was to ensure the defeat of BSP nominees in Uttar Pradesh. She also accused the SP and Congress of launching a false propaganda against her party to mislead Muslim voters.
“These two parties misled the Muslim community by stating that BSP had formed the government in UP thrice with BJP’s support and it can again join hands with the saffron brigade if it is in a position to form government at the centre,” she said, adding that it was the factor behind her party getting lesser number of Muslim votes this time.
However, the UP chief minister said despite conspiracies of the opposition parties, the BSP gave them a tough fight finishing second on at least 50 seats and improving its vote percentage at the national level as well as in the state.
“In terms of vote percentage BSP was the third largest party in the country after Congress and the BJP. At national level our vote percentage increased to 6.22%. In UP our vote percentage increased to 27% as compared to 24.67% the party got in 2004,” she claimed.
