New Delhi: Communications minister Dayanidhi Maran will meet officials of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) from across the country on 22 February to review operations, targets and challenges of the public-sector major. He will take stock of their preparedness in matching the private sector in attracting more subscribers. The internal review meeting will discuss business developments, targets for the coming fiscal in terms of subscriber addition, network expansion, improvement in quality of service, investments and circle budget preparations, BSNL sources said.
Maran wants BSNL to improve its customer care services and is of the opinion that there is vast scope for them to improve and match the private sector, which offers better services to woo customers. The minister will meet chief general managers of all telecom circles, projects, factories and review performance of each unit, give suggestions to improve and set higher targets. BSNL has total subscriber base of little over five crore and in January it added 8.2 lakh mobile subscribers, taking its base to 2.4 crore. It has 3.8 crore fixed line users.
