Kochi: Union minister of state for forests and environment Jairam Ramesh on Monday said there have been numerous violations in the no-development coastal regulation zones (CRZ), with indiscriminate reclamation and resultant construction activities as well as massive effluent sewage disposal into the sea.
Ramesh said public opinion would be considered for the draft of the proposed sustainable CRZ rules for 2010, which will be prepared before 15 March and would give individuals and the state governments the opportunity to respond. The new rules are aimed at protecting the livelihood rights of fishing communities along the coast.
